100-Day Clothing Brand Building Course

Real Model Photos vs. AI Images – What Best for Your Website?

Before We Begin

Most people start a clothing brand without understanding product creation, sourcing, marketing, pricing, and brand building. This 100-day course is built to help you understand the path before you start working on it.

This course is created from the real experience of building and scaling Offnorth Fashions into a multi-crore clothing brand over the last 6+ years.

There’s something that works hand-in-hand with your product copy: Your product images.

“Should I go for a professional photoshoot, or can I use AI-generated images instead?”

Let’s talk.

First, a little backstory from Offnorth

Back in late 2023, when AI-generated images started becoming a thing, we jumped in early.

Until then, we used real product photos – clean, professional, studio-lit shots. They cost us a few thousand rupees per style, and honestly, they looked good. But once we started testing AI-generated visuals, the game changed.

We saw a boost of 70% in sales. Yes, seriously.

We used Midjourney-style visuals, added claymation textures, and gave the brand a strong “premium” vibe.

It looked bold. It looked different. And in 2023, no one could tell if it was AI or real. I even ran a poll with customers from our inner circle. Most of them had no clue the images were generated. They just loved how clean and “professional” it looked.

Fast-forward to mid-2025. We ran the same test again.

This time, almost everyone, including casual buyers, could tell it was AI.

Not because the quality dropped (in fact, it got better), but because people have become visually trained. They can now detect:

  • Unreal skin textures

  • Fabric that doesn’t wrinkle

  • Perfect lighting with no shadows

  • Faces that look too “plastic”

And suddenly, customers started asking us: “Can you send a real picture of the product?”

“Is this what the actual colour looks like?”

“Do you have any real model images?”

The trust drop was real. So what’s the verdict?

Here’s my honest take after testing both deeply.

Use AI images for:

  • Website banners

  • Collection page thumbnails

  • Instagram stories or creative ads

  • Mood shots or concept visuals

  • Brand storytelling (“what we stand for” pages)

They’re quick, beautiful, and easy to scale. And for a new brand, they elevate visual presence fast.

But never rely on AI images alone for:

  • Product detail pages

  • Product thumbnails

  • Customer decision moments

When someone is about to spend ₹1,000–₹3,000 on a product, they want to see how it looks on a real person, in real light, and from multiple angles.

AI can’t give that level of trust. Okay, but shoots are expensive, right?

They don’t have to be.

Here’s what we recommend at Yenmurai:

  • Hire a college model or friend (₹0–₹2,000/day)

  • Use natural daylight and clean walls

  • Use an iPhone + Snapseed for editing

  • Shoot 8–10 angles per product

  • Record 5–10 second mobile videos wearing the product (super powerful!)

You don’t need 5 cameras and a ₹50K budget. What matters is relatability.

People want to see how the tee falls, how the colour looks in daylight, and how it fits around the arms and waist. Even one clean, real photo can build 10x more trust than five fancy AI images.

Bonus Tip: Combine Both Smartly

Real or AI (depends)

It’s not about either-or. It’s about using each tool for its strength.

To wrap it up:

AI images are great for speed and scale.
Real images are irreplaceable for trust and conversion.
Use AI to attract, but use real photography to close the sale.
