GSM RANGE GUIDE

Choose the Right Fabric Weight

Every product needs a different fabric weight. A lightweight T-shirt, oversized streetwear tee, premium hoodie, jogger, or winterwear product cannot use the same GSM. We help you choose the right GSM based on comfort, fall, structure, season, and target price.

FAQ

Questions Brands Ask Before Manufacturing

Clear answers before you choose GSM, sampling, production, and bulk manufacturing.
What GSM is best for T-shirts?
140–180 GSM is generally ideal for lightweight and breathable T-shirts. 180–240 GSM works well for premium everyday wear, while 240 GSM+ is preferred for oversized, structured, and luxury streetwear products.
Does higher GSM mean better quality?
Not always. GSM only represents fabric weight. A lower GSM Supima cotton T-shirt can feel far more premium than a heavy low-quality fabric. Yarn quality, knit structure, compacting, washing, and finishing matter equally.
Which GSM is best for oversized T-shirts?
Oversized T-shirts are commonly manufactured in 220–280 GSM for a premium drape and structured fit. Heavy streetwear brands may even choose 300 GSM+ for a luxury heavyweight feel.
Which GSM is suitable for hoodies and sweatshirts?
Most premium sweatshirts and hoodies are produced between 320–500 GSM depending on climate, fit, and customer preference. Heavy winterwear collections can go even beyond 500 GSM.
Can you help us choose the right GSM for our brand?
Yes. Share your product idea, target customer, country, season, fit preference, and pricing strategy. Our team will recommend the most suitable GSM before sampling and production.
Does GSM affect pricing and fabric consumption?
Yes. Higher GSM fabrics consume more yarn and increase garment weight, which impacts fabric cost, production pricing, shipping weight, and overall product positioning.
