Why your website copy matters way more than you think
Most people start a clothing brand without understanding product creation, sourcing, marketing, pricing, and brand building. This 100-day course is built to help you understand the path before you start working on it.
This course is created from the real experience of building and scaling Offnorth Fashions into a multi-crore clothing brand over the last 6+ years.
So far, we’ve built your Shopify store. We’ve added a smart checkout solution to increase conversions and reduce costs.
Now it’s time to talk about something most people overlook - website copy.
When we build a website, we usually obsess over the design; the colours, layout, images, fonts, and how it looks.
Design is important, no doubt. But from a marketing perspective, your words matter even more.
Let’s get into it.
What exactly is website copy?
Website copy is the content - the words you put on your site.
Now here’s the key difference:
-
Website content = general information
-
Website copy = content written with the goal of convert visitors into customers
Design gets attention. But copies sell.
So, how do you write a great website copy?
Simple: speak directly to your target audience.
Think about emails. You say, “Dear Palak,” or “Hey Sathish!” On a website, you don’t usually say someone’s name – but you can still personalise.
Example: If you sell to bodybuilders, say “Hey Bodybuilder!” If your audience is fitness lovers, say “Hey Fitness Enthusiast!”
This simple shift in tone builds instant connection and higher conversions.
While writing the website copy, keep this AIDA formula in mind. This is a framework you can use to write compelling copy.
You’ll get traffic from Google, Meta, WhatsApp, communities, and visitors at different stages of their buying journey.
So your copy needs to guide them step-by-step.
Use the AIDA formula:
-
Attention – Grab it immediately
-
Interest – Get them curious about your product
-
Desire – Show why your product matters to them
-
Action – Nudge them to buy
This structure works, whether you’re selling T-shirts or Teslas.
Now, let’s bust a common myth 👇
Myth: “People don’t read long content. Just write 300 words max. Everyone’s on Reels these days.”
Reality: Yes, people scan, not read word-by-word.
But the 5% of visitors who are ready to buy? They’re looking for answers. They’ll scroll, skim, and search your product page for details. If they don’t find what they need?
They leave. Or worse, they text you on WhatsApp, and by the time you reply, they’ve moved on.
So here’s the golden rule:
“Not everyone will read everything. But the ones who are ready to buy? They absolutely will.”
Give them everything they need – right on the product page. Even if it takes 1,000 or 2,000 words, make it scannable, honest, and helpful.
Quick checklist for your product pages:
✅ Write clear, helpful descriptions
✅ Address all possible questions and objections
✅ Include real customer reviews
✅ Add trust elements (secure checkout, guarantees, badges)
✅ Share your brand story or value props
✅ Use photos and videos if possible
Make it feel like a real offline showroom - warm, clean, trustworthy, and informative. Because online, your words and videos are your sales team.
